We both needed this. We stayed for a week at Sandals Ocho Rios in Jamaica.

We did not go to tour. We went to VEGETATE. We only left the resort once and that was for a trip to the local Dunn's River Falls where you walk up the falls as a group. Maybe I should say "grope". Everyone holds hands in a chain as guides lead you up with stops at the various natural pools for a break.
(That's Phil under the falls in the right picture)
The Sandals deal is that essentially everything's included in your package price; food, booze, water sports, entertainment. Off premises excursions are extra, except for the falls tour we took. Also, you can transfer between any of their properties (accomodations permitting). We did not do this. We just sat in the sun, ate, took sailing lessons, sat in the sun, went snorkeling, and sat in the sun. Carol was roasted most of the time. Phil also sang Mac The Knife at the talent show (not Karaoke, but a live band!). The people there work very had to make you feel comfortable or "Irie" (laid back) as they say.

We were surprised and a little disappointed in the food. It was copious and visually pleasing but unremarkable. Not bad, just boring. Phil has been to Club Med in the Turks & Caicos Is. and the food was outstanding there.
The down side was that Ocho Rios is about 2 hours by van from Montego Bay airport. The ride was a chance to see another country but not exciting.
Ya Mahn, we'd do it again, but we'd go to another island to see some different geography and vegetation and different local culture.
